Anyone who leaves a month before exams is very obviously stupid. Just saying. I for one think the new decree is perfectly fine as is. It should be a law to complete ones studies all the way through N.E.W.T's. It'll prevent us from having magically incompetent brats running around. On top of that I think it'll also prevent the subsequent lack of ambition from filtering past educational completion. Freeloaders are a real strain on the economy after all.

In other news...My father's publishing company, Turnip Publishing, is accepting applications for entry level potions in their Advertising, Art, and Editorial departments. For those interested he usually hires one person per department straight out of school every two years. They work mostly in translating and distributing foreign wizarding material. Their most popular books last year were, Madam Laroche's 200 Seductive French Love Potions - Nadia Laroche, Transfiguring My Life: A Study of Magical Self Mutilation - Oskar Østberg, and Tsar of Wands: Ivan IV's Wizarding Biography - Jaspar Sokoll.

Speaking of post-educational jobs. Does anyone know of any apprenticeships with potions masters still in the country? The two I was planning on applying for don't seem to own shoppes anymore.

So, I'll be the first to ask it: what are the chances of Hogsmeade actually happening next weekend? I mean, with all the changes newly appointed rules should I be concerned about the leisure time being altered in anyway? More importantly can I still go shopping with Su?

[Ward to Current Ravenclaws]

I just now heard about the Gryffindor twit's monday debacal yesterday...since I've been too busy to notice. But, it got me wondering if anyone in our house been physically assaulted by the newest faculty members yet? If so....who? And if not what are we going to do if/when it does happen? Thoughts?

[Ward to self]

I've been holding off forming an opinion on the recent state of Hogwarts officials. As it stands they seem to be leaving me alone which is the way I'd prefer it. Everyone else seems to be up in arms over every little thing that changes. I suppose it's their prerogative to do such...we are teenagers after all. It's in our development to complain, right?

Though, is it wrong of me to feel as though the changes don't effect me enough to get defensive about them? The only muggleborns I know to the point of caring are Su and Kevin. And while it's certainly unfair the way they've been treated I can't say I'm feeling the burn of anything at the moment. And I'm not exactly sure it'd be in my best interest to get involved in all that.

Fighting for someone else's rights in an establishment where attempts at retaliation are easily stunted...seems a bit pointless in my opinion. At least while in school.

I'd say I feel bad about feeling this way, but...I don't. I mean I'm not Harry Potter and doubt I'll ever have the yearning to be a self righteous vigilante. Nor would I ever want to be. It seems most of the people I'd have access to talk to about all of this...feel entirely different on the subject. Which makes it all the more awkward to bare.

I'm just going to stay out of the way and get through the last few months of school. It's the best option currently, I think.

For those who've forgotten N.E.W.T's are fast approaching despite the change in atmosphere around here. That said are there any study groups still looking for participants? I've gotten to a point where I've exacerbated independent study. I'm good for Potions, Herbology, and History of Magic notes.

Whoever stole my silver scales from dungeon #8... I want them back. You don't even have to tell me who you are - just return them. They were a gift to myself and have significant sentimental value. And they were expensive-

My parents are currently downstairs debating if I should be allowed to return to Hogwarts tomorrow. Obviously, I didn't return when that letter arrived. Apparently, my mother isn't a fan of the fact that the Headmistress is digging her grave along with a number of other peoples. And my father doesn't like the idea of having to find a tutor with N.E.W.T level qualifications. He's not a fan of spending money when he doesn't exactly have to. Which makes sense from a business point of view. But - alas, they've yet to ask my opinion as per usual.

To be entirely honest I could live with either option. Return or stay - I don't care. Both seem to have equal pros and cons. Go to Hogwarts: see my friends and feel the sting of politics when the proverbial shite hits the fan. Or stay home and likely be arrested for killing someone out of sheer boredom. The lot of my family has been driving me mad since Christmas Eve. Which...went well for the most part, by the way. But that's all I'll say about it.

In the meanwhile, I've finally mastered a new version of my blemish be-gone cream. It successfully removes pimple jinxes of nine varieties as well as the common blemish. The water drinking supplement is no longer required. I haven't updated my enchanted business cards just yet - but...the change will be made shortly. I have to pay my brother to make the changes It'll be taking the place of the original blemish concoction at the same price from this point forward.

So, home has been fantastic. I got home, unpacked, played with the cats.... OH! and discovered Hank, our havana brown had died. Apparently it happened two days before my birthday and my parents didn't think it appropriate to inform me then. According to my sister, Lydia, they found him by the pond on the back of our property. Dad's convinced the grindelows down there got a hold of him. Whatever the case was - I was a bit upset. I may or may not have slammed a door or two...maybe some crying

Lydia's vying for a dog this holiday to replace him. Not that Hank could ever be replaced, mind. Dad wants to get a cockatoo... I personally think we don't need any replacement animals so soon more of anything pet related at this point. If anything we should each get a holiday trip to someplace not here.

I'd personally like a trip to a place like the Burmuddah Triangle or Cape Town. Someplace warm and tropical. It'd be nice to sun bathe and open gifts at Christmas, don't you think?

McGonagalls clearly been drinking out of the same aged liquid form of crazy the former-headmaster was downing. She can't do what she's doing. And if she does manage it I'd be surprised if half of the student body returns after the new year. This is all ridiculous.

I have reasons to believe Michael and Amanda are exchanging bodily fluids. And I'm growing increasingly concerned over it.

Why isn't it winter holiday yet!? Or at least Hogsmeade weekend? Landon (my brother) is going to pay us a visit during the trip. He says he's going to get me and a select (of age) few all a round of drinks in celebration of my birthday. It'll be a day late, but...free drinks! Why would anyone turn that down? Let me know if you want on the list. I have to get him a head count by wednesday.

In other news I've finally made improvements on my blemish-be-gone potion. It's been a side project of mine since last month. If my work proofs are correct it no longer requires drinking water after application Though, I haven't tested it on a human yet. I'll pay if anyone's interes-- So it won't be ready for distribution until the new year. More information on that when it's ready, though.

Oh and ....good luck to you quidditch apes. May the best mob win.

I find it hard to believe that so many people are honestly that attached to the squid. I mean, really, how many times have you people actually went to swim with it and/or spent extreme personal time with it?

Believe it or not I think life is going to continue on just as it had with or without the thing swimming around out there.

Yeah, alright, so it's become something of a Hogwarts quick jab used in scaring firsties on the train about their trip on the boats. But really...you can replace the squid with grindelows or merpeople for those stories.

While you lot were off whining about an animal that won't care whether it's at Hogwarts, in the ocean, swimming with the Lockness Monster, or being eaten by asian wizards... I successfully managed to make a potion for fingernail growth. The 2nd Edition Nolan's Complicated Yet Practical Potions I picked up at Hogsmeade is brilliant! I advise all those who have lived life without a copy to order one now.

Merlin. I think I'm the only one who'll be glad when quidditch trials are over. The enthusiasm for a spot on the team is getting a little annoying. I mean, honestly, everyone knows second years have a slim chance of getting that spot if there's a sixth or seventh year vying for it. Which should be a decent enough reason why you brats should keep your brooms some place not on the tower steps or in the middle of the common room floor. I tripped twice today

Something worth being excited about is the first Hogsmeade trip next weekend! I've been craving a slice of Madam Rosmerta's herring pie the last couple of days. I'm sort of excited about it, actually. That and I'm pretty sure Nolan's Complicated Yet Practical Potions 2nd Edition is being released mid week - and I'll be able to get it Saturday.

Michael, clear your schedule for sometime after I get said book. We're having a potions session when I get it. We're incredibly overdue for one. Plus, that Lumin Fungorum is piling up. We still need to find new uses for it. I have a list of possibilities.

P.S. Terry, I need you! Where are you?

Alright. First weeks up. Second weeks dwindling. Is it wrong that I'm almost bored already? I was thinking of maybe getting some extra credit from Slughorn if he'd manage to think up something beyond his boozing. I swear I smell alcohol on his breathe every time he talks to me. Can they read thi---.

Sorry...my cat got excited.

But as I was saying I wouldn't want to bite off more than I can chew early on. I suppose it'd just be better to enjoy the slow days and appreciate them, yes?

So, I know this is completely shallow considering the worlds falling apart and people's lives are being ruined by the minute and .... whatever. But, Landon (my favourite brother)... got tickets to the the Vila Franca do Campo Broom Races in Portugal next week. I really want to go. My folks aren't too excited about it considering schools right around the corner and we haven't shopped for school supplies and the like. Plus mum's never been a fan of port-keying cross bodies of water to begin with... but, BUT Merlin! It's not every day you get to go to Portugal! And it's certainly not every day you get to meet gorgeous professional racers not mentally handicapped from blows to the head from bludgers.

I encourage everyone and their brother to write my parents explaining how brilliant a trip like this would be. I also encourage explaining to them that my marrying a professional broom racer is also in their best interest as well. Especially if his name is Franklin Pennifold or Bras Glauco....

Merlin, school needs to start a.s.a.p. I feel like a bloody prisoner here. Ever since that death eater attack in Diagon Alley last week my parents have been acting all sorts of loony. They've all but boarded up the doors and windows with me in it. I'm on a sundown curfew these days which I thought had stopped when I was twelve.

So yeah, as an alternative I've been babysitting my sister, Lydia, all week. I didn't used to mind it so much, but she's become one of those annoying nine year olds, you know? The sort that just now realized she can talk and is all of a sudden cheekier than I am - which is saying something. I've been tempted to hex her with a muted tongue hex...but I have a feeling that won't go over so well. On top of that she's just completely inconsiderate. The other day I caught her trying to steal a batch of my products that I'd made for a few summer clients.

Who does that!?

Hexed Private )

I very desperately need to get out of here. Who wants to temporarily adopt me until term starts? I'm currently accepting applications.
